DARLA AND BASKETS OF FLOWERS-ANOTHER BABY QUILT

Okay, another unfinished baby quilt top. I just can't help myself. We are now 80% sure it's a girl after the last sonogram but there is still that pesky 20%. This is a quick little top made from Darla fabric by Tanya Whelan and Baskets of Flowers fabric by Mary Engelbreit. It's all for sale at 44th Street Fabric in the form of a kit we put together for a class. I would use this quilt for a baby regardless of whether it is a boy or girl. I was very surprised that my progressive son, Jason, the baby daddy, was so adamant about it being too "girly" if it's a boy. Thank goodness we have the Lily Pond line and the Chic BeBe line due into the shop any day now. Those lines contain fabrics that could "go either way" for a baby quilt.

I love this fabric combination so much that I might make one for myself. If you would like one in any size, just let me know and I will kit it up for you with the binding and backing.

FRENCH HATBOX FABRIC FROM TANYA WHELAN COMING SOON!

Tanya Whelan, one of our all-time favorite fabric designers for Westminster/Free Spirit Fabric, has a yummy new line of fabric, French Hatbox, coming out very soon! Check back with us at www.44thstreetfabric.com for this gorgeous line! Shown here are photos of the pink colorway but there is also a yummy muted aqua blue and the odd sort of gray-green-beige (I don't know what this color's official name is) that you see in the leaves on the fabric shown.

LOVE IT!

NEW DARLA FABRIC--YUMMY FOR SPRING!!

These awesome Darla fabric combos by Tanya Whelan for Free Spirit are just a few of the new Darla fabric we received! Bright and happy colors for all your projects! Stop by the shop and take a look! We LOVE Tanya Whelan fabrics and so do our customers!

Oh, and I started a baby quilt for Jason's new baby! I'm using all the wonderful pinks and blues from the shop--a quilt for the baby made from Daddy's fabric! I'm doing pinks and blues because we don't find out the sex of the baby until later in the month. I just couldn't wait! When I get far enough along with the baby quilt, I'll do pics and you can let me know what you think! I'm so excited--this will be grandbaby #7 and we haven't had a baby in the family for 9 years! We almost gave up on you Jason but WTG!

BIG RED BIRDS TOTE AND QUILT

The big red birds fabric by In the Beginning Fabric is from the "Feathered Friends" line. It's one of my favorite fabrics of all time, designed by the talented Wendy Slotboom. I just learned that the manufacturer is out of this fabric and they aren't going to print any more. We carry this fabric and the big yellow bird fabric from this line at the store along with the companion fabrics. I'm really torn. Do I keep a big chunk of it for myself or sell it? Do I raise the price? Sigh...I have so much to learn about selling fabric! By the way, we sell the pattern for the "Practical Bag" (which is very easy). It's by Tanya Whelan, another one of my favorite designers. The pattern for the quilt is free and is in pdf format. Just comment me and I'll send you the link if you want the free pattern.

THE PRACTICAL BAG PATTERN BY TANYA WHELEN

The shop has listed some of Tanya Whelan's patterns and I actually made a bag from her Practical Bag Pattern today! I made it from Feathered Friends fabric (which we also sell of course) by Wendy Slotboom for In the Beginning Fabrics. I was really happy with how the bag turned out! I used the big red bird fabric for the outside, the floral for the inside and the blue stems and leaves for the handle. It took me about 2 hours total to cut it out and stitch it up. It's a perfect size for a day at the beach, a day out with baby or an eco friendly trip to the market. I'm going to use mine to take packages to the Post Office. It's a great pattern to use your favorite big print fabric! Just click on any of the pictures to buy your own!

TANYA WHELAN APRON PATTERN!

We are so excited to have Tanya Whelan patterns in our Etsy store! Her designs are so cute and her patterns are so easy to follow that we think once you buy one, you will be back for the others. We also stock some of the Tanya Whelan Darla and Barefoot Roses fabric to make these items look just like the ones in the photos or even cuter. Later today I'm going to finish my Tanya Whelen tote bag. I'll take a photo of it and share. It's nice and roomy and I'm using it to "tote" all my orders to the Post Office. Get your apron pattern and fabric before they are sold out!
