Sailing Away

Saturday is my day to do some stitching - Woo Hoo! I've been looking for a quilt pattern to stitch up for my grandson who will be graduating from high school this year. I'm thinking of doing this Ship and Whales pattern. The blocks are really big and have tons of pieces to cut out. It really takes some skill to do this block and, as you can see, this will have to be my practice block.

I do think the ocean fabric is perfect. I dyed it in the washing machine with Rit tan dye a few years ago. I want the colors in this quilt to be muted and homespunny (is that a word?) and so will be dying the sail fabrics too. What do you think? It's a lot of work for a quilt that will probably end up in a dorm room. I know I shouldn't be worried about what the recipient does to a quilt but there you go....I do worry about that. I also did a Farmer's Wife block. Not my favorite because of the striped fabric but it will be okay in the quilt I think. The red stripes next to the red blocks make the blocks look like they are the wrong size. Learn from my mistakes! It is called Homeward Bound.
My only other news is that Lola brought in a dead mouse from outside today. A great feat for an old, fat shih tzu! I had to chase her around the house to get it from her. She was running as fast as her chubby little legs would take her and her little ears were flying back. It was adorable. Sadly, my fat legs were not so fast. I finally got her cornered and retrieved it for burial (in a trash bag). That's all I've got today...it's only 1:45 so I'm going to have more time to sew this afternoon and evening.
Have a great Saturday! XO and cheery wave from Bev

I'm loving the ship block! I may have to do something like this for my grandson who loves being on the water too!
Your puppy brought you a very coveted gift. Lol My cats use to do the same thing and when I tried to take it from them the chase was on also.

the sail boats look great, re the mouse thank your lucky stars it was a dead one, could have been a lot worse trying to catch a live one, I know that from experience when a cat bought one in, never did find it after it disappeared in the cupboard under the stairs

Bev: I'm crazy about the sailboat pattern. Be sure to show us the finished quilt. I love the Americana look to it.

I love that sailboat! That is funny about the dead mouse, if my cats ever caught a mouse, they would probably just ply with it and Oreo would probably try to get me to lay fetch with it!
