Country Charmer Quiltalong 2013
The "BIG Blizzard" missed us by a cat's whisker! I'm very busy at work but am trying to find a chance to sew something every day. I've planned to start the Country Charmer quilt from the pattern by Lynn Wilder at Sew'n Wild Oaks. She is a very talented pattern designer and this Christmas quilt is so versatile that it's another "everyone is doing it" quilt. I used just the fabric laying by my sewing machine to make a sample block. The background and the sashing are the same colors throughout the quilt but the block "insides" are all different fabrics. It's more challenging than it looks.
And, yes, that's a yellow background and it won't be the one I use for this quilt. Before you get the totally wrong idea, here what the quilt looks like when it is finished:
This is the Christmas quilt version. Lynn has since done tons of tutorials that are on her website. You can find them HERE on her blog along with her other patterns. The Flickr group for this quilt is HERE. This is another one of those quilts you could do anything with. She even has a block in Halloween colors on the blog and that looks good! So my poor block will be relegated to the orphan block pile and probably never see the light of day again. I think I might do this quilt in red, black and white...or one in pink and green....or one in gray and yellow... See that's how I get myself in trouble. I do love this quilt though. Instead of consigning your poor block to the orphan pile have you thought of using 2 and making them into pot holders or a small mat to sit on a table tout hot dishes on . The are simple to make use double thickness or wool or cotton batting. Put on face down then your batting then one face up do a bit of quilting free motion or just straight lines using a walking foot. Then bind it by machine if you want include a loop on one edge so it can be hung up. Just and idea or you could even turn them into pace mats.
