Done! Finished! Finito! Finis! By Golly, All the Blocks are Done!

Okay, so there is a lot more to do to finish the quilt but all 30 blocks are finished! Yowser! Woo Hoo! Here is a collage with the 30 blocks!

Here's the 30th block:
So the next step is deciding how to set the blocks and what to do for a border. I think that the blocks are so busy that they need a strong border to contain them but I don't want to do a plain border...or do I? I also think they need more separation and a bigger sashing strip than I gave them in the collage but when I tried that with the collage, it didn't look right. I could do one of those wavy, pointy borders. Also, it's so busy that you need somewhere to rest your eyes.

See, I really need your help here. This is the point where I often stop a quilt because it's so hard to make these decisions.Ya'll have a happy Saturday and give me suggestions! I need them! XO and cheery wave from Bev

You might look at some of Karen K Stones settings or Judy Neimeyer for inspiration. That's where my suggestion for offset, on pointe layouts came from. You could also pivot them around a solid square.
I'm imagining a jewel tone, not a solid but something tone on tone with some movement in it.

Wow, that's a gorgeous sight! I really like that thin, turquoise setting. It made me think of a month's worth of sunrises in a tropical paradise. Maybe with a wider border that pulls out some more of the colors. Layered - like the blocks.

This quilt is such a WOW! I quite like the narrow strips between the blocks, but whatever you do will look fantastic. Great accomplishment~!

Whoohoo! Way to sew! I love the idea of a solid sashing. Can't wait to see what you decide. :-) Happy sewing!

Incredible! I've been watching from the sidelines and I love how it has all come together - can't wait to see it all finished!!

Love your colour combos definitely in my wheelhouse!
Are you planning on having all the blocks in the same orientation or having them topsy turvey?

One consideration for your sashing could be black with a small pop of colour like turquoise or green. Mary Lou Weidman had a fabric called Happiness is party time evening starts black green tea. They have some at fabric.com. There was also a turquoise version.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

You could use Freddie Moran's theory of using black and white prints as the sashing and even part of the border. She says it gives your eye a place to rest! Beautiful job! It will be gorgeous no matter what you end up doing.

You could try Freddie Moran's theory of using black and white prints as a place to rest your eyes. She loves bright colors too. She is a well known west coast teacher if you are not familiar with her work. Your piece is stunning. It will look wonderful no matter how you finish it!

I think they look terrific with the turquoise background in the collage. But I agree with one of the others that black would be a stunning offset to all those bright, beautiful colors. I also like the idea of spinning them around a dark center square, so all the blocks would be offset from each other, and it wouldn't matter at all that they don't have the exact same configuration. Or a snake-like design where each block is spun 180 degrees from the one next to it, gives you a diagonal curving design.

They are gorgeous. I'm not sure that I'd use sashing. I'd probably not set them all the same way either. I love the colors they are so fun!

Wow, they're beautiful! I would stick with a solid sashing and border, nice a bright so it can hold it's own, but not start a fight between the blocks and sashing.

That is absolutely gorgeous. The small sashing is wonderful I think. as for border I will leave that to other more experienced quilters but surely something not too busy and not to take away from this beauty.

Beautiful! Love them! I would keep the thin sashing in black, white or a dark color, maybe with a small dot of color. It is going to be so beautiful! vickise at gmail dot com

Hello, Yes I echo the "wow, wow, wow!" I see the warm gold-ish color as a good one to pull out in sashing and/or border. It's strong enough to hold it's own with the blocks without competing with them. But I am sure there are many solutions for sashing, border and setting. Can't wait to see what's next.

I've always wanted to do one of these New York Beauty quilts. Maybe play around with making some blocks in circles.
Well done!
