So how do you guys do it?

It's the Friday before Easter. I am a believer in Jesus Christ so I acknowledge the celebration of His sacrifice for us. This is a rough year for me as you know because I share my life with you. I believe that God knows what He is doing and I trust Him. I don't pretend to understand all the wondrous mysteries that this belief entails and I am relieved that I don't have to. All I know is that this is a very dangerous time to be a Christian and I hope that, if I am challenged, I can do the right thing. I hope your celebration is happy. On another note, I finally finished my Great Granny quilt top. So here it is:

And here's my question. This top is so large that I don't have a place to hang it for photos. I have to stand at an angle to get the entire quilt in the photo. I can't spread it out and flatten it. Will you guys share how you take photos that don't look awful?

This was a fun top to make because I got to use the 6" square patchwork fabric that Lori Holt designed. There is a large variety of patterns that are not printed anywhere else.

I love the border that has green and gray dresses on a yellow dot background. I'm still totally broke though so will list it in the Etsy shop for someone else to quilt. Because I'm going to try to sell it, I need good photos. Can you share your photography tips with me? I hope everyone has a great holiday and that you get to spend it with family! XO from Bev

I have been thinking of you and poor Spencer. Such a handsome man. Good luck with selling your lovely quilt. I'm sure it will bring sunshine into some lovely persons life.

My photos are the same as yours. Maybe if you run some twine across the wall you can hang it up with clothes pins maybe?

Sounds like you need to enlist a neighbor or family member to hold the quilt. Just take your quilt to the store with you and ask random strangers to hold your quilt while you take a picutre! I'd do it in heartbeat. I might just do it for the fun of it. Come on...lets do it! My next quilt top will be the one!

Take your lovely quilt outside, hang it on a clothesline, lay it in the grass, drap it over something.. a car, a woodpile, whatever that is around. It's lovely by the way :)

This is one of my biggest challenges for both my blog and etsy. I've come to the conclusion that you don't have to show the entire quilt, but better to show it in a pleasing setting. Drape over a chair, bed, railing etc. Then show close ups of some of the quilt and anything particularly interesting (your border). My biggest issue here is lighting. Good luck and still praying for you and your family.

I use skirt hangers, the clip kind, to hang in a big doorway in my house or take it outside to a fence if the sun won't ruin the shot.

Hang in there Bev! Let your faith get you through...I've been thinking about you and your family!
I think most of us have the same problem as you...taking pics has always been a chore! It will be interesting to see what everyone else does!

Hi, Bev - I have a friend here that started one of the greatest little quilt shops, long ago...she is also a pattern designer. She takes her outside and utilized a large wooden fence. I have also seen her take a "beachy one" with her to CA, and get two lifeguards to hold it up, to get a photo with them and their gear in tow. It was super fun! As for the ones I finish here, I feel your pain in trying to get ANY kind of good photo, by myself. I think you're doing a pretty great job with what you do. Happy Easter, my friend - hope each day is bringing a little bit of ease to that pain. XOXO
