Easy, Fast Way to Clean Your Iron!

Happy Friday to you guys! I have been asked about the best way to clean an iron by several new quilters so I thought I'd share what I do with them. I'm sure everyone has their favorite cleaning method and this is mine. As you can see, I love using starch but it builds up:

At this point, the starch buildup can start to transfer onto my patchwork! I've really waited longer than I should to clean (shocker). What I use is Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. I just moisten one with water and gently rub the COOL iron.

No chemicals, no mess. I just wipe with a paper towel and this is the result.

My iron looks new again! So there you go Christy and Janet! Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday! Cheery wave from Bev

Are you KIDDING?!!!!! Holy moly, did I need this tip - I hate searching out the smelly iron cleaner that comes in a tube - no one carries it anymore, except for Walmart, on occasion. This ROCKS!!! Happy Friday, Bev - THANKS A MILLION!

THANK YOU! My iron has had some gunk on it for a while, and I tried some kind of a cleaner, with not the best results. I use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on a lot of other things, but never thought to use it on my iron. Must go and try!

"I turned the iron on to the hottest setting. While waiting for it to heat up, I moistened a piece of paper kitchen towel with plain water. Then I held the long white generic Tylenol (acetaminophen) in my hand and scrubbed the black stripes in circles. The pill dissolved as I scrubbed, and then I wiped off the residue with the damp kitchen towel. A Miracle--the black stripe was gone! ( I wrote the preceeding instructions in my Wetcreek Blog. Who doesn't have a Tylenol hanging around in the medicine cabinet? Linda@Wetcreek Blog)

There's nothing a Mr. Clean Eraser can't clean! I use it on my Veggies, cleanest tators in town!

Hello, I read somewhere that the Clean Eraser do leave some sort of residue. I wouldn't use them on food items!
And I believe they scratch away varnish etc. Do you find that it damages the sole of your iron in the long term? Thanks.
