The Bottom of the UFO Box-at Last!

I'm sure that, by now, you are sick of hearing about the box of UFO's I knocked over a few nights ago. I'm showing everything in it because I haven't been able to sew because I'm so far behind on my "real job" and my cleaning...bleah.... This is one of the last two pieces in the box:

It's my own design from years and years ago. The four seasons on flags-lol. It makes me say...awww, look at my first quilting efforts....awwww. Like looking at one of the kid's grade school papers. Then there is this partially finished top:

I don't have time to iron it, hang it, etc. It's not finished anyway. Back in my homespun days, I cut all my fabric into strips of varying widths as soon as I got it. I made these 4" squares by sewing 1" strips together, then cutting them into squares. Now, years later when I could finish the quilt, I don't have the fabrics that I did then. I have a few left but not much variety. So, what should I do with this? I can finish the flag/seasons quilt (although I probably won't) but don't know what to do with this homespun top. Do you have this issue? I cannot bring myself to throw them away. I don't have time to work on the projects I'm currently doing, much less mess with these. So what to do? Put them back in the UFO box and decide later cause I have to clean. An appraiser is going to be taking photos of my house on Monday morning. Do you ever find partially finished ufo's from 20-plus years ago? What do you guys do with them? I'm going to continue to clean. Hope your Saturday is more fun than mine! XO and grudgingly, basically cheerful wave from Bev

They're both wonderful...I'm in homespun heaven right now...almost done with Country Homecoming with more primitives on my list...wonder if any of my stash would be helpful...some of them are oldies but goodies.

Wow, they are very pretty. Look at how your fabric taste has changed over the years. I give away projects I do not want to make. I figure someone will love them and give them a good home.

If you have no plans to finish it, and don't want it, maybe you have a quilty friend that would like to finish it? Or ask your blog readers if they would like to have it, just pay you postage - I did that with ALL of my scraps. . . Kind of, someone said they would take them and I actually sent them LOL It worked out really well. She has a huge box of scraps that she loves and has already made two quilts out of and I don't have to look at scraps I know I'll never use :)

I say if its not your thing anymore, give it away, send it to the goodwill, whatever. set yourself free. if you think you want to eventually finish the stars, start keeping you eyes open for more homespun in your travels, but move forward. i sent a ton of old unfinished tops to the goodwill. life is just too short for me to work on something i dont love or isnt relevant anymore. I wish I still had the homespunds to send you..

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww - but isn't it fun to see how your quilting and color choices have evolved over the years! I think we all went through that homespun phase. These are delightful, Bev - hope your Sunday is, as well! XOXO

I think you could just bind the flag quilt and call it done, it's very cute! I also love your plaids, it has such a great scrappy plaid look going on. I'm sure you could pick up some more plaids to go with it, maybe unstitch a few blocks and intersperse with the new fabrics. I tend to still love my old ufos but then don't finish them. I'm finally getting to the point where I can "let them go" to other homes, local guilds usually want them to sell at their shows. Can't wait to see what you decide to do :)

Found a few of my own UFOs this week. I'm giving away my 52 finished Dear Jane blocks on my blog and will have another one ready to go in a day or 2. Sometimes there is nothing like the freedom that comes from slipping a UFO package into the mailbox or ...hearing the lid drop down on the garbage can. Kerry
