My New Red Door

Thanks to all who wrote about my home invasion! I'm fine. I never was really afraid, just angry. To answer your questions, no they didn't catch the guys. I had to secure the door because of the dogs before I got my phone and called 911. I just live at a place that has lots of access to the interstate and to a big highway that goes through the city. They could have gone anywhere. I did get a new front door:
My son, Jason, was in Boston for business and my other son, Eric, was at Disney World (the one in Florida). But Jason got a door delivered and installed and Eric got a guy to paint it. I got to pick the color. I've already made a little curtain because I can't handle the window at night. The dogs are upset because the old door was glass and they could sit and see what was going on out front. I'm arming the alarm system every day now. That's kind of embarrassing. I'm grateful that no-one was hurt. Eric (who is in the Sheriff's Reserve) is a gun expert and he's going to take me to buy a gun and give me lessons. Oklahoma is an open carry state. Eric always carries his gun but does wear it under his clothing. His wife has a conceal and carry purse.

Here they are at Disney. Aren't they a glam couple?

I'm grateful to God who always keeps me (and the dogs) safe. I also bought the bar that the police recommended. It goes under the door knob on the inside to keep someone from being able to kick the door down. So be watchful and stay safe. Don't open the door to strangers but let them know you're in there and tell them to leave in a mean voice (that's what one of the police guys said)...lol. XO and cheery wave! Bev

I am so glad you are safe, as well! And I am so happy you left a comment on my blog so I could follow you here, and in the future. We've had these happen to us, both our home and the home sites we build on. And even with security footage, they were never caught. Ours were young thieves fully masked and hidden by baggy cover clothing and they hit our jobsites over and over again. grrr.

You are obviously one tough mama too, invaders beware. (((Big, big hug to you)))

I have a red door too! I like the idea of the alarm bring on all the time and the wood under the doorknob, great idea. Yes they are a glam couple! Looks like beautiful weather for them. xx

Oh, so happy you are safe. I read your blog about the HI this morning and promptly forwarded it to anyone I could think of. Scary stuff!!! We live in a gated community but I have never thought that was much protection - just a false sense of security. I never open the door to strangers, but like you go to a window first. I will make sure I have my phone nearby now!! Stay safe and enjoy the new red front door.

I'm so jealous of you're new door. Sorry you had to go through the bad stuff to get it. I've been trying to convince Sweety that we need a red door, two years later and he still thinks it's a bad idea.

Glad you are safe. See if you can set your alarm to a stay mode when you are home. The alarm will go off if someone breaks in but you can move about in your home. How sad that there are so many nasties in our world.

Love your new front door!! Your beautiful front door must be the silver lining for a very scary event….at least for you if not your dogs since they can't see out anymore ;o)
Also thanks so much for the link to the Concealed Carrie website. My concealed carry purse is one I got about ten/fifteen years ago and the store where I bought it from is no longer in business in our little town. I've also got a birthday coming up (the BIG 6-0, sheesh!) so I will have to drop a hint to my hubby and keep my fingers crossed!

love the new door, very cheerful looking, you have good boys and when you get your gun I am sure will feel secure. Living on my own I have a burglar alarm but only set it when out, should set it at night too, maybe I will look up how to but I come downstairs sometimes in the nIght when half asleep and you can guess what will happen!

I totally love that red door!!! It's wonderful to have your sons take good care of you even if they are out-of-town. They are so cute together.

I am still just amazed that they were brazen enough to kick down the FRONT door???!!!!! SO glad you are safe, with that rockin' new door, too! XOXO

Glad nobody was hurt. I never answer the front door unless I know someone is coming over. Please tell us about the bar you use on the front door. Maybe show us a picture so we can purchase one too.

Bev: I have been away from my computer for a couple weeks and just found out about your break in. What a tramatic thing to go through. I sounds like you handled it very bravely. Thank goodness it wasn't inthe middle of the night. I'm so glad you are safe. You sweet self means a lot to many of us bloggers who you have made friends.
