Home Invasion

First let me say thanks to those who have noticed that I haven't been posting and have contacted me. I'm fine but I do want to talk about something. My front door was kicked in by 4 Hispanic males and they entered my house. It was about 10:15 AM on a sunny day with a garage sale going on 3 houses down on my street. They did knock but I didn't go to the door right away. I went into my bedroom and looked out the window to see if I could tell who was at the door.
When I went into the front bedroom, I cut myself off from my telephone because I had taken it into the studio to have while I worked. From the time I realized that someone was kicking in the door until the time I got to the living room, all 4 guys were in my house. I ran at them screaming (in hindsight that was probably really stupid) and when they saw me, they left immediately. Thank God that they didn't use a weapon on me! The police who came to investigate (here's a picture of the intrepid Oklahoma City police guys--I'm glad they didn't have to chase anyone on foot...)
told me that the home invasion robbery crimes are rising by about 1000% every couple of months and that it is mostly illegals who are brazen thieves. They rob in the daylight when people are at work. They work in large gang groups that split into smaller groups to work a city for a few days and then move on. Apparently they have semi trucks to store the stolen property and take it somewhere to dispose of it. The police told me that crime has skyrocketed. They said to get an alarm system (which I already had but had not armed) and a gun and take lessons to learn how to use it. In fact, one policeman said that he recommended I get two guns. One small one to keep with me and a shotgun to keep by the door. They said to not open the door when I don't know who it is without the gun in my hands. They said it was that serious and that extreme.

I told the police that I hadn't heard about the huge rise in crime and they said that it was being kept quiet so that the public doesn't panic. My son's been trying to get me to buy a gun and, with Charlie's medical condition, I haven't been able to afford one. So, I guess he's going to buy me one. I don't know how you feel about the border and about politics and how things are going in this world but I hope that, where ever you live, you take precautions. I live in a nice neighborhood with lots of elderly people and young professional couples. The police told me that it doesn't matter where you live...that even gated communities and isolated farms and acreages are being targeted. So be safe, think about arming yourself and don't leave your phone in another room if someone strange comes to the door. XOXO

Holy Cow Bev! How absolutely terrifying!!! Thank goodness they ran when they saw you!! I had heard home invasions were on the rise, but of course, you always think it's in some other state or city or some other neighborhood than your area. Such crazy times we are living in any more. Hugs to you!
P.S. I agree with the police about being prepared.

Oh my! I'm so glad you're ok. How scary that they'd come in the middle of the day. My parents live in Texas just across the Oklahoma border along I-35. They were robbed in broad daylight and none of the neighbors saw anything. It's changed their feeling of security in their own home.

OMGosh Bev. I'm so very glad you are safe. I know about the borders for sure. We live in central Texas. There have been a number of Home Invasions in a town about 16 minutes from here.

I think it's going to definitely get worse, before it gets better. It will probably have to happen to someone who is very important, before anyone cares around here.

Stay safe!!

How scary, I'm so glad you are okay! That is one thing about having one cell phone nowadays instead of a phone in every room of the house. Did they catch the guys?

Oh my goodness that is so scary. I'm so glad you are ok!

so glad to hear that you are OK -- break ins have been happening more in my area as well, our neighborhood has a cop that patrols regularly now.

Oh my goodness Bev. Thank God you are ok and those thieves didn't attack....You are truly blessed. We are having all those horriable home invasions where I live at too in South Carolina. I think the drug abuse has a lot to do with the people staling ..so they can afford their drug habbits that and all the illegals that do not work and cannot get work.

How scary!! I am very thankful you are ok too! I don't always answer the door either, next time I peek out a window I'll have my phone in hand! :-o Thanks for letting us know about this terrible trend~ I don't think any lid should be kept on it~ everyone has a right to know!

I'm so glad you're ok! Scary stuff. Make sure you get a hip holster for that gun, and a second holster for the rotary cutter. Handguns are nice to have around but I'll you what there's not one person in this world that doesn't know and fear the sound of a shotgun. Wouldn't you love to hear the stories they had to tell about the LOCO American senorita!

I am so glad to hear that you are ok. I was broken into some years back and I slept with a butcher knife by my bedside for weeks after. It is a horrible feeling of invasion.

How frightening, I'm so glad you are ok. Take care and stay safe.

If you get a gun take an NRA class. They will teach you how to properly use a gun safely. They get a bad rap in the media, but their safety course is very good.
Glad to hear you are ok.

I have heard the same thing about break-ins being on the rise here in Wichita, they aren't being publicized either. About 3 weeks ago our next door neighbor had their door broken in like yours at 8 am...only the guy that came in was running from a car accident at the corner and said someone was trying to kill him (he was high on something). He hid under the neighbors bed until police coaxed him out threatening him with a taser. Funny thing, our officers look to be in the same shape as yours. I am glad you are okay.

Oh gosh! I hate that for you! This world is getting so scary. We live in a small town, but I keep my doors locked all of the time, and like you, if someone comes to the door, I look out to see who it is before I will open it.

So heartbreak I am so happy you and the puppies are safe! I do believe we should arm ourselves but I live in the middle of nowhere.

Oh Bev, that is so scary. I'm glad that you are safe. I know it's not the wisest thing to confront the burglars (I did that too when we were still living in SA and it was a horrible experience), but I also know that you have a right to your home and it's a natural instinct to protect it. Sending you lots of love & hugs and I pray that God's love will surround you at this time as you deal with the aftermath. xxx

Oh Bev! I was just getting caught up on my blogs when I saw what happened to you. I'm so glad you are safe. You are one brave lady! We have the same problem happening in our area, also in the middle of the day. A burglar will knock on the front door, while one of their gang members breaks through the back door. It isn't safe anywhere. Take care, Lynn

OMG...Bev I am so happy that you are alright!! Makes me so thankful to live where I do! I don't own a gun, don't know of anyone who does, nor do we want to. Guns scare the you-know what out of me!

Bev - I'm so sorry this happened to you and your babies! I am behind in my reading of blogs. I just thank God you weren't hurt. Did they get away with anything?

Scary, isn't it that our world is getting so bold and violent?

Take care,
Judy

I am so glad you are OK! What has this country become???? There is no "safe" neighborhoods anymore....I agree...get the gun! I live in Arizona so I have a very strong thoughts on illegal immigration...it is ravaging our state, and many others....we HAVE to do something!
I think as bad as a decision as it was to yell at them, I would have done the same thing! How dare they!!! Not smart I know...but it would just have ticked me off! Be safe...use that alarm system also....:)
