Good morning! I finished the applique block for the bright version of the Austin Bluebird quilt (applause here)! I still need to trim it down and sew the two pieced parts to it but you get the idea. This is the quilt that I decided to make in a bright version with my fabrics and also make in the traditional fabrics that came with the BOM. I wanted to do the bright version first so that, if I'm going to mess it up, it won't be on the block that came with the BOM.
It was hard to get a picture because this is a big block! With the pieced parts, it's going to be around 24". So you can imagine how big the finished quilt will be! Here's a photo of it finished. This block is in the upper left corner.
I'm going to try to get the other block done this weekend and get them both sewed up. I'm also still plugging away on the Beauty quilt.
Oh, I found something on Pinterest yesterday that I think you'll like! It's a very handy conversion chart for inches to mm and cm. So helpful for patterns written by my favorite Australian and UK designers.
I'd love to be able to give credit to the person who put this together but none was given on Pinterest. If you click on it you can print out a size you can read.
I also found a photo of a gorgeous antique quilt on Pinterest. No info on it either! I'd like to make a duplicate of this quilt. I love the pattern and the colors!
Well, that's all I've got today. I have to go work on my pesky "real job" and wait for "helpful" emails from "the 24 year old" a/k/a my boss. I'm writing for the website of a big, well-known store today and, sadly, they requested that the copy be written on an 8th grade level. It's adult clothing but that's what our country has come to. Can you imagine? 8th grade! I can't fathom what the world will be like for my as-yet-unborn great grandchildren. Let me know what you're doing today and cheer me up! XO from Bev

Oh yes I love your bright version!
Hi Bev,
Just found your blog and really enjoyed it. I love both, your bright block and the original quilt. Looks like a really good size too. My favorites are the birds!
That quilt from Flickr is pretty. Hope to see your version of it some day.
Absolutely outstandingly beautiful! I adore the non-symmetry layout. Although nothing in the placement was random, I like the eclectic look. Could you take blocks for a row quilt and piece them somewhat in this manner~~without symmetry? Please tell me there's a way. . . You are awesome!
I love your bright block!! Just beautiful!!!
I do love the bright version too! Lovely
that is a big block, how on earth do you square it up sorry I do not expect you need to as you are so accurate, I would have to buy a square template for it but just checked creative grids only go up to 20.5". It looks a great quilt to make. have put the conversion chart on my screen and will save it for future reference.
I will applaud! If you listen caefully, you might here it :)
Love, love the bright colours; such a happy block...
Absolutely love your bright version of Austin Bluebird!
