A Pincushion Tutorial (for a fancy wool or velvet pincushion) and Downton Abbey

Monday! A fresh start to a new week. I was going to sew yesterday during Downton Abbey but ended up just laying on the couch watching it. There was a wonderful show on right before it that was all about the castle where Downton Abbey is filmed. So amazing. If you didn't catch that show, the castle is owned by the Carnarvon family. The Earl of Carnarvon is the man who financed the dig in Egypt where the Tomb of Tutankhamu was found. Of course, he financed it with his wife's money but the "gentry" don't speak of such things.

So, because I'm in an elegant mood from last night, I thought I'd share that my friend Jill, of Fiberluscious, has a wonderful tutorial on her blog today for her elegant pincushion. I'm sure that, if someone at Downton Abbey sewed, they would have a pincushion like this:
Or they would have a pincushion made from wool with embroidery like this:
You can find Jill's tutorial HERE. Jill's instructions make it look easy and when I have time, I'm going to try one. Her instructions for fancy stitching are just wonderful too!

Well, I'm off to work. I will work today with visions of this in my head:
With it's gorgeous silk fabric wall coverings, chandeliers, paintings and elegant furniture...just beautiful! Have a great Monday start of your week! I hope you find some time to sew! Cheery wave! Bev

I am so wanting to do your blog thing but find everything about it sooo hard to do. I want to add that button to my site, but can not figure out how to...as with all the other things I do on my site. I don't blog very much because it takes me about 6 to 8 hrs. to make a post. I obviously am in desperate need of help!
Also those pincusions are really nice!

Lovely pincushions - thank you for the link. I am SO envious that you got to see Downton Abbey yesterday - it comes on far too late (11 pm) for us to watch so we must wait until spring when it is aired on a different network at a reasonable time.
