What is a "Modern Quilt Setting"?
Hello on Monday! Today is a dark, dreary, rainy day....just perfect for stitching! I'm going to try to piece the blocks for my un-named quilt together in the next couple of days. Now, are the blocks "Modern" style? If they are, is the setting I've put on the table "Modern"? I've heard that, if there is a pattern, it's not a modern setting.
I don't know. It's so dark outside (yea, we need the rain) that this is the best photo I could get. Also, I'm going to take out that dark aqua block on the bottom row...it's too out of place color wise. So what do you say? Modern or just "Plain"? LOL Hope your Monday is great! I do not think total chaos is the goal for a modern setting...so there is always an underlying pattern . I have seen a lot of the "Modern" quilts lately and most of them have a "pattern" to the layout.

A lot of "modern" quilting looks pretty traditional to me, so I wouldn't worry about classifying it. Personally, I'd keep that deep aqua block (I really like the fact that it adds depth) and stick it in the middle of the quilt so that it can be a focus block.

I agree the one block doesn't quite fit. Perhaps it would make a good label or center for the back.
I read somewhere that patterns with bright modern fabrics are contemporary, but I'd call that beautiful quilt modern.
From what our MQG say this is modern. large blocks with colour, allthough they say grey is used a lot, I agree the day one should be removed or maybe not is could be a good contrast. A friend who is a member of the Contemporary group tells me there quits are arty with extra bits on and painted etc and not much in the way of stitching but not really sure all the labels are right!
I have no idea, just that I like it!
I think there are a million versions of what modern is, but I would consider this a modern quilt based on your clean lines and bright, modern fabrics. It looks great!
I like the deep teal it adds a contrast interest, I'd even add another one in the second row from the top and 3 down LOL. Then add a large teal appliqué of some thing. This will surely make it a modern quilt and interesting with a twist. There are so many lovely colours in this quilt but I think the deep teal adds interest. Have fun Glenda
