Oh, it's cold here in Oklahoma City! The wind chill meters have frozen so they can't read the wind chill but estimate it's 15 below zero! Last night about 9 PM, Charlie came in from outside and collapsed! He couldn't get up and was barely breathing. Well, there was ice and snow and my son had just called me from picking up his wife at work (she's a pediatric intensive care nurse) and he said that the roads were the worst he'd ever seen! I didn't think I could drive Charlie to the vet on the ice. I called and talked to them and the vet said there was nothing they could do other than put Charlie in an oxygen cage but then the vet said but don't try to drive here. They are the emergency vet and they said that none of the emergency patients that had been referred to them had been able to make it to the clinic. So I had about my 1000th talk with Jesus about Charlie and he got better! My son, who used to do emergency room medicine, told me to put a fan on him to get some air circulating around his face. Well, that did it. Charlie looked at me like "are you crazy" and got up to get away from the fan! He seems to be okay this morning but keeping this old guy alive is stressful. Oh, it's totally worth it but it's really, really frightening at times.
Yesterday the power kept going off and on so I couldn't really work on the computer so I grabbed a ufo box and made this little apron block. I think it's so cute. It's from the book Quilts from El's Kitchen by Eleanor Burns.
It's patterns for blocks to make a sampler quilt for the kitchen and all the blocks are food or cooking related. I love the quilt and I love the little apron block. It will have little ties when the quilt is put together.
I hope the weather is better where you are! Tomorrow our weather is supposed to get back to normal and be in the 40's. We just have to get through today. Charlie's little heart can't take much more of this frigid weather and I can't either! Stay safe and warm! XO and cheery wave from Bev

Oh, poor little Charlie! I hope he is doing much better today. I found your blog about a week ago and love looking at the photos of your beautiful quilting blocks. This little apron block is just adorable -- I may have to check out Eleanor's book ;-)
Stay warm...Linda
Oh Bev my eyes started tearing up reading about Charlie. So glad he pulled through. He reminds me so much of my little Coopie.
I' glad to hear Charlie's OK in the cold there. How did you make the block if the power was out, is it hand pieced?
Something like that just scares you to death, doesn't it? And especially since you couldn't get out. Poor Charlie and you too!
Glad he's better.
This weather - GRRRRRRRRR

I was holding my breath reading your blog about Charlie. So glad he is doing better and you didn't have to venture out on the bad roads.
I love the apron block! Will have to check out others for the kitchen. Too cute!
so good to read Charlie has recovered, I think we would have all been a bit breathless out in that cold but for him it is so much worse. Love the apron, far too nice to wear whilst cooking, I always spill so would have top cover it with another one!
That had to be so frightening, poor Charlie and you, I hope the weather improves for both your sakes.
Thinking about you and Charlie!! xo
