It's Friday Already!

Boy does time pass quickly when you get older. The explanation for that they say is that 1 day when you are 66 years old is much shorter relatively than if you are 1 year old. When you're one, a day is 1/365 of your experience. When 66, a day is 1/24090 of your life (not counting leap years). I think it's sobering to realize that I've had more than 24 thousand chances to make something meaningful of a day. Okay, enough of that--if you are visiting because of the Grow Your Blog Hop, my giveaway is HERE.

Last night, I dug into my UFO boxes looking for a hand applique project to do in front of the television. I was surprised to only find one. All of the background squares are cut and all of the pattern pieces are made into vinyl templates. It's from a pattern called Samples from the Past by Alma Allen and Barb Adams of Blackbird Designs. I can never wait for their new books and I buy them and pet them and look at them and never make them. Here's my first block that I just got started:

As you can see, I'm making mine out of colors that are not traditional. Here are some traditional ones that I found online:

Sorry, I don't know who made these. I know that lots of you think that traditional colors are much prettier. My problem is that I love them both! I do have a traditional group of blocks that just need to be set that I hand appliqued. Maybe I'll do that soon. I just wanted some hand work for times away from the machine.

So what's everyone doing this weekend? I'm putting together the Farmer's Wife blocks I just finished. We are going to have big snow storms next week - starting Sunday. I guess I'm going to dig into my remaining food stores and make a pot of beans. Oh, and for those of you who haven't seen the new Budweiser commercial that will air at the Super Bowl, here it is...get your tissues out!

Happy Friday! XO and cheery wave from Bev

"I can never wait for their new books and I buy them and pet them and look at them and never make them." I just started laughing out loud when I read your remark above, that is what I do with Kim Diehl's books! My reading enjoyment in my bathtub is quilt books!
Thanks for the Superbowl commerical

That commercial is gorgeous.

I love you colour choices! They look great, unfortunately I can't view the commercial. It is that immigration/border thing, not allowed into Canada until it has been shown at the Super Bowl. In fact we have Canadian commercials shown, not the U.S. ones, a real drag.

your block is looking so good, like you I have lived for 66 years well nearer 67 now! Applique is another on my to do list, why did I not move over to quilting earlier in my life I ask myself. Hope you do not get snowed in tomorrow, maybe some homemade soup will be the order of the day, I plan to do pumpkin soup this morning, bought 3 small pumpkins in november and have one left, no maybe I will roast it as the other 2 were soup, sorry seem to have had a ramble!

Lovely block. I too love Blackbird designs and have made several of their quilts. I go back and forth from traditional colors to bright and always have. I have been quilting for over 25 years and have done, brights, repro, shabby chic, retro, you name it and I love them all!
