My Favorite Quilting/Sewing Tool

It's Friday! I'd be more excited if I was caught up more at my "real job". Last night this season of Project Runway ended. I love that show. The people are such characters but they whip out some beautiful clothing! After it was over, I was sewing on my circle blocks so I didn't get up to get the remote and a show came on that was about personal shoppers for millionaires. It was so disgusting. The shoppers were buying clothes and accessories for the ultra rich who were spending $30,000 plus on a dress, $8,000 for a pair of shoes, etc. It made me sick to think about what that money could be used for. I would like to think that, if I had that kind of money, I would use the money better. Maybe I'm being too judgmental but I can tell you with certainty that I would never spend that much on a dress.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox. I worked some on Project #2, the Curvy Circles. I realized that all of my fabric was polka dots. I had forgotten that I'd done that. I sewed the blocks together by just cutting a notch in the center of each piece:
then matching and pinning:
and sewing:
Sorry about the pictures. It was dark and the flash came on. Can you see the tool I'm using in this photo to keep the edges of my block together while I sew? Can you guess what it is? I can't even sew blocks together without it, I use it all the time!

It's a porcupine quill! It has an extremely pointed end that catches and holds the fabric and the other end has a flat surface that pushes fabric along. As you can see, it's big. I bought it at a quilt show from a vendor and have used it for years. I can't imagine that thing stuck in me!What's your favorite quilting/sewing tool?

Well, off to work. Today I'm writing about jewelry designers (interesting), shoes (sort of interesting) and men's shirts (not interesting). Hope you have a great day! XO and cheery wave from Bev

  1. That looks like a very useful tool - I use my metal stiletto all the time too, but it's not as cool as your porcupine one! Haven't watched Project Runway for a long time.....

  2. I have been known to use a kebab stick! Thanks for showing how you do the curves, wondered if it was very difficult as curves looks so hard to a newbie.
