Back in Time...Kicking and Screaming...

This morning I am reveling in the air conditioning and all the modern conveniences that I always take for granted. On Friday, my electricity went out. Then came back on, then went out. By Saturday, it was just out. Two visits from the electrician and three visits from the electric company later, I finally have electricity! It was hot and I am old .... too old for no air conditioning! I had almost all weekend to think about what life would be like with no modern conveniences. It isn't pretty!
I did finish the hand applique on this Christmas table runner. It's not ironed because there was no electricity to iron it with. No electricity for the Bernina to put borders on. No electricity for a fan. I pray that I never take electricity for granted again!

The utility companies have begun installing "smart thermostats" here in Oklahoma City. No-one has come here to install one in my home but I've heard from friends. This is not voluntary. OG&E will be able to control how cool or hot it is in your home remotely. I have been sitting here in the air conditioning with a ceiling fan - reveling in the amazing gifts our advanced technology has given us....wondering how long we will have them before the government takes them over.

Hope you have a great week! I have to catch up on about a million things now.  Cheery wave from Bev

Our electric company here in KC is trying the 'we control your electricity' thing but it's voluntary. I said no thank you to them. I'm to old to be either to hot or to cold simply because someone sitting in an office who knows where controls my heating and cooling.

Are you kidding me? I am menopausal the thought that someone would control my thermostat could cause them some major issues and like you I am too old to be hot!

OMG really... the power co. wants to control your usage.

Cold war, third world countries here we come..

Go here to read. We had these in Phoenix and they read the usage. We paid less for electricity early mornings and after 9pm. They are NOT regulating how your thermostat works!

OMG----I am past menopause and there is no way I'd want someone to control my temperature. I deal with it while shopping, some stores are just too warm for me. I have a short temp range that is comfortable for me. Hope they never think of that here in the NW.

What an awful weekend to not have electricity. It's so hot and humid. I am so excited about leaving this weekend for Alaska - all I can think is COOL! Then, someone blogged and told me that Alaska is having a heat wave??? But still, it's only in the 80's so that'll still work for me!

Hope your ac holds out!!

Take care.

Oh my goodness no power. That is horriable. And the thought of the government controlling our heat and cooling is not a pleasant thought. I thought we had all these freedoms here int he USA. It seems the more things change the more backwards they go...Isn't that why the America's were settled int eh first place to get rid of all that government rule telling them what to do by the crown...Scary times we live in. And sad to say you know it is only gonna get a lot worse.

Out here in MD, it's optional and there are 2 ways to participate. One is the programmable thermostat. I declined that because I already have a programmable thermostat that does more than the one offered. I have a device attached to my outdoor AC unit that can shut it off during emergency periods. The old program was a max of 15 minutes per hour. The new program is 50%, 75% or 100% for the duration of the emergency event. We get a credit on our electric bill if we participate whether it's activated or not. The amount depends on the level of participation.
