Fighting Perfectionism...Again

Hello! I know you are sick of seeing the Dresden blocks from my Around the Year quilt but I finished another one last night.

Now I've finished 4 blocks so will start on trying to finish some other tops. I have a bunch of applique blocks that I did by hand and I'm going to try to get those trimmed and put together as a top this weekend.

It's so hard for me to decide how to set them...do I add sashing? Set them on point? Put plain blocks between them? Do a plain border? I think this is where I really fight my perfectionism. Don't get me wrong...I know I don't do perfect work. That's not the issue. My issue is making decisions and committing to a look. I've been told that when you seize up like that, it's perfectionism. What if I commit and I don't like the results? It's not that big a deal to me with quick, pieced quilts but all that work on hand applique blocks! If I don't get it done and quilted though, I could croak off (I'm old) and the kids could sell the blocks at a garage sale....see, I'm showing you, yet again, how messed up I am! So I'm going to bite the bullet and do it...tomorrow. For sure. Wish me luck!

With that, your crazy friend Bev will go do some writing assignments and think about how to put that applique quilt top together. Hope you have a wonderful, sane Friday and find some time to sew! Cheery wave! Bev

Not tired of your beautiful blocks Bev. And for how to set the applique blocks, if you arrange them on a design board and YOU like it, that is all that counts.

LOL I am not the only insane one out there.

Not tired of seeing them at all. I really love them. But with a round "block" like a Dresden plate, you don't really change the look much but putting the backing on point. Now, if you go with alternate pieced blocks that will give you a lovely design between the plates, that would be a different issue. If it were me, I'd make plates to my heart's content, lay them out to stare at them for a while, and then decide what comes next. (Of course, I hope you're not like me, because it can be years before I figure out what comes next. I get distracted easily.)

Hi Bev I love seeing all your finished it inspires me to do a bit of sewing every day. For your appliqué quilt why don't you look on the Internet - pin interest perhaps to get some ideas on the layout.
