The last day of 2012. Is it just me or did 2012 go really fast...like way faster than normal? I've been thinking about the UFO's I have and had decided to select 4 to work on. That way I can switch back and forth among them and not get too bored. I had decided not to add another new project this year. Just finish my many UFO's. Then I received a gift in the mail...the pattern for this:
It's the pattern for the Bird of Paradise quilt top that is shown in the American Folk Art Museum. It is considered one of the finest examples of applique ever to have been found. Sadly, the maker is unknown. I've always loved it. I would love to do a masterpiece (which is what I consider this to be) before I die. I'm not sure I have the skill to do this quilt but, because my friend Cathy sent me the pattern (thanks again Cathy-you ROCK), I'm going to add it to my list for 2013 (and probably 2014 and 2015..heh). There are kits for this quilt (very expensive kits) and I found a website that was created just for people doing this quilt. It has a waiting list so there must be quite a few people working on it. The website is: HERE. They call it the Civil War Bride Quilt. I have to say that I can't wait to start it! I wish someone would start another website like it. If you are working on this quilt, please let me know. I'd love to have someone to compare notes with as I work on it.
Well, enough of that...I have to work today. If you are doing a list of projects to do or finish in 2013, I'd love to know what they are! Don't forget, this is the last day to enter the New Year Giveaway! You can enter that HERE. I'll announce the winner tomorrow. I hope you have a safe and happy New Year's Eve and that you find some time to sew! Cheery wave! Bev

I thought I would share a little something I started...a Finish A Long. For 2013 it will be hosted on a different blog...http://www.shecanquilt.blogspot.ca/p/2013-finish-long.html?m=1
Oh, that looks awesome! I certainly have enough projects to qualify! Bev
Hi Bev I think it's a project to be spread over several years. Why don't you check out Facebook and see if there is something on there or start your own group. Just an idea.
I've seen this pattern and it is beautiful. What a challenge!
Happy new year.
Judy
WOW I would consider that a life time achievment quilt. I am doing 2 hand applique quilts right now but nothing like that.
Happy New Year.
Hi Bev! I have this pattern and my goal is to improve/learn how to appliqué decently and then someday soon (I'm thinking next year at the start of 2014) I would like to begin working on this gorgeous, gorgeous quilt. Right now I'm too much of a novice to even think about jumping in, but I do plan on improving my appliqué skills this year and making this quilt my 2014 goal to start working on it. (You are a year ahead of me!) That being said, if you do start working on this quilt this year I really look forward to seeing your blocks!!
Wishing you and yours a Very Happy New Year!!
Oh Tina! I'm so excited to talk to someone who is going to do this quilt! Let's keep in touch!
This could be so tempting. It looks like each block is it's own unit, so you could work on one at a time. (Ok, that's the post holiday insanity talking).
