My New Plate Rack and Reflections on Self-Pity

So yesterday the UPS guy brought a huge (really big like 8 feet long) package and left it on my porch. It was this wrought iron plate rack with cherries.

I have never received anything with so much packing! I have enough peanuts and bubble wrap to last for years. Just thought I'd show you. My kitchen is bright, sunny yellow with black and white check accents and cherries. I have red dishes all over. It doesn't look bright yellow because I have a cheap camera and I have a covered patio that blocks much of the sunlight (just wanted you to know that I didn't paint my kitchen the horrible yellow-brown color it shows as).

Yesterday when I wrote my blog entry, I was feeling a little overwhelmed with work. I've been feeling "poorly", I'm badly in need of a vacation and I wish I had more money. I had just read the amazing Susan Branch's blog. She is one of my favorite artists and her blog is just as amazing. There is even a little bird that flys along the top of the page singing when you hit the "home" button. She is married to "that great guy" who takes her on trips through the country to look at the fall leaves. He stops at antique shops and he builds her things! They live on Nantucket in Martha's Vineyard in a beautiful, big, old home. Her art work reflects the fact that she is a lovely woman (I'm sure). I am happy for her. I was just sitting here yesterday, feeling sorry for myself (I know, I know...that's not productive or good) trying to think of something to blog about that wasn't depressing (oh....the self-pity) and I made the comment about blog women who have "perfect" lives. Well, that's sure not me. I do have a wonderful life and here is one of the reasons why. This is my grandson, Austin, who is 17 today! I do make a gratitude list when I'm down and it helps me remember that I am a very, very lucky woman! Happy Birthday Austin!

And now I have to apologize to all the blog women (and guys) who love Walmart and the dog groomer. I didn't mean it! I was temporarily blinded by Susan Branch's perfect life (yes, that's it...it was all her fault). Not really...I'm okay today. I've recovered. It is so nice to be able to share with you about my character defects. I truly do love Susan Branch. You can see the magic on her blog HERE. She's all copyrighted and I can't show you her work on my blog but go take a look. You will be inspired! Have a great day! Cheery wave from (the now recovered) Bev

I love your new plate rack, the plates you displayed on it are perfect. Even the bloggers who seem perfect, are not; they're just people who market themselves that way. Your life is great, and so is mine.

What a perfect display - it's beautiful. We all need some self-pity every now and then to make us look at things from another angle. Also, I agree with the first comment: a lot of people are just better at marketing themselves than others. Have a great day!

Walmart and dog groomers?, sounds just like my life and I love it. Nobody's life is "perfect" but we can make it sound that way.

I enjoy Susan' Blog also. Sorry you had a 'down day'. Everyone is entitled to one now and then. Sewing and Quilting usually snaps me out of a Funk, if I can get the time and energy to do some. Even 10-15 minutes helps my moods a lot! Not every Blogger has a perfect life. Some days the seam ripper gets way too much use. Life happens while we are having fun.

I love your new plate rack! My kitchen is a cheery yellowish with lots of red too. Unfortunately, it is also very small and a plate rack wouldn't fit~ now don't you feel lucky? :-) Have a happy day!!

What a great plate rack. Love the cherries. May I ask where it came from?

To Nancy: It's a Mary Engelbreit plate rack and I got it on eBay. Sadly for the seller, she started it at a low bid ($10.00) and I was the only bidder. See how lucky I am? :)

Love the plate rack. Happy Birthday to your grandson. Everyone has their down days and their days to be a little green with envy. Usually, the next day the sun seems brighter, a package arrives in the mail, a special person has something to celebrate, something good happens. I just feel happier any time I can avoid going to Wal-Mart and go to a fabric store or play in my sewing room.

Hi Bev! Personally I REALLY appreciated your blog yesterday and I have always wondered why I wasn't lucky enough to have a wonderful hubby like ALL the bloggers out there seem to have. They ALL seem to be lucky enough to have husbands that will drive them to quilt shops, look at the beautiful fall leaves with them, and so on and so on. I was thrilled to know that some folks out there have husbands like mine that doesn't do any of that stuff and that they, too, go to Walmart like me. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts yesterday! And a Very Happy Birthday to Austin! Today is my birthday too - although I'm just a bit over 17 years old!!
