Saturday Sewing, a BOM with prizes, a sewing tip and more FW Blocks

I've taken a break from the relentless "real job" writing duties to do some sewing! I was asked to do the Aurifil BOM by a friend who wanted to do it together. I realized the other day that I have 3 grandkids graduating this year! I always thought I'd make them a quilt but I'm going to have to hurry. It's just a block a month and there are prizes--although I can say I've never won a prize or a blog giveaway. I've made the first block but couldn't get a good photo of it. I decided that I really don't care enough to spend a lot of time on the photo but this gives you the idea:

There's a Flickr group for these blocks and there are so many talented people doing this block. I used the pink background because I had about 5 yards of it left from the shop. After I cut the block, someone wanted to buy all of the rest. I sold it because I have such a crappy financial situation right now and, although I have Charlie's meds this month, I have to get them again next month. Now I'm going to have to re-think the background. Mixed pinks I'm thinking. He's doing SO well! I'm so grateful. And, I had two more Farmer's Wife blocks cut in the pink, aqua and blue colors:

This one is the Basket block - well, I guess you could figure that out. And:

I screwed this one up but didn't realize it until it was too late. The small corner squares were supposed to go in the middle for more contrast. Oh well. I'm kind of on a pink kick. This block is the Broken Sugar Bowl.

A blog reader asked me what my favorite sewing tip is and I had to think about it. Now, don't look closely at my blocks but one of the most helpful things for me is this:  when you are stitching something that requires you to feed a point through the machine, dab a teeny tiny dot of glue on the point. I'm talking teeny, teeny dot. I use Elmer's School Glue but have used Roxanne's Glue Baste It. Roxanne's is expensive and I just have a devil of a time with the nozzle getting stopped up. Anyway, the teeny tiny dab of glue is in the seam allowance and I've never had it give me any trouble. Half square triangles, flying geese and anything else that requires sewing with the corner going under the needle first stays together with no problem.
