In my last post, I lamented the fact that I keep finding ufo's. I asked what you do with your ufo's and got a lot of answers. Apparently, you give them away. Immediately I felt guilty because that was not something I considered doing. What kind of person am I anyway? So I decided to make a pile of the ufo's I have and then make a list and then decide what to do. Who to give them to? Should I give backing and binding fabric too? Here are some more that I found:
This one was made from Folk Art Wedding fabric when it first came out. Remember how everyone went crazy for it and then it was gone? It was by Moda but I cannot recall the designer.
This is one I made with wide borders so that I could do scalloped edges. It's made with Tanya Whelan fabric. I just love that white with roses fabric! The green is much prettier in person.
Here's one from my "homespun days". I made this from scraps.
Here's the Rattlesnake quilt. I love the bright colors.
Here are the blocks for the "unnamed quilt". I have most of it actually sewn together now. It's made with my favorite color combination.
Here's the aqua star. Gina said she wanted it but wants me to put a bunch of borders on it to make it king sized. That would assure that it would never be quilted by me.
Here's an attempt at an "art quilt". It is supposed to be the center of a big quilt. I thought I would put Gina's hand made pottery buttons on it. But it has just been sitting there waiting for inspiration.
This is a Christmas Star quilt with appliqued center. At least I still have the red Christmas fabric for the borders. I was going to do smaller stars for a border and then an applique border. So okay, that has not happened.
This group is just what I pulled out last night. I'm getting a huge stack. I feel like a hoarder. So you are the unfortunate (unless you already stopped reading) recipient of my guilty confessions. Sigh.....
Don't forget to enter the Kathy Schmitz Giveaway #4! It ends Saturday and I will announce the winner on Sunday. You don't have much competition in this giveaway for some reason. You can enter it HERE. And don't forget to enter our giveaway for free fabric from Lori Holt HERE. I have to go do my beloved "real job" and write about foreclosure and leasing agreements today. I hope you all have a good day and that your UFO stack is more manageable than mine! Cheery wave from Bev
What lovely UFOs you have! I LOVE the Tanya Whelan one - those fabrics are so pretty and I made my garden bench pillows from them (see link: http://gillymakes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/comfy-cushions.html )
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want to finish them, how about selling them "as is" to a new home for someone else to finish them?
Just a thought ;-)
Have a happy day,
xx
You have some beautiful work there. Anyone would be happy to get it. And I feel so much better now knowing I am not the only one with hidden stacks of UFO's that I don't want to finish because my attention span has switched to other projects.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people said give them away so that wouldn't feel bad about finishing them and seeing them every time they dug around in there stuff. You need to do what makes you feel good.
ReplyDeleteThat aqua and red star is to die for, how big is it now. I think that would make an awesome baby quilt. How much would you want for it?
ReplyDeleteI think the Folk Art Wedding fabric is designed by Robin Pandolph. That homespun UFO would be right at home with me. Just sayin'...

ReplyDeleteYour UFO stack is a goldmine of wonderful treasures. You are so talented when it comes to putting colors and patterns together!!
ReplyDeleteHave you considered writing a book?
LOL

Oooohh the rattlesnake quilt is gorgeous, I would love to finish it up!
ReplyDeleteOoooh the rattlesnake quilt is just gorgeous, would love to finish it up!
ReplyDeleteOh you have some lovely UFO's! If they are no longer your style, you could sell them. I would not worry about including backing and binding and all that unless it is fabric you have and want to get out of your cupboards too. If you are worried about quilting, PM me, I know someone who does beautiful work at a great price. ;) Actually, I know a few 'someone's'. LOL Don't feel guilty. You learned a technique or something when you started them, and that knowledge is with you forever and priceless. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI would not include other fabric, you have already invested a lot of money and time into them. You can make three stacks, 1. The ones you love and want to finish - or not, 2. The ones you want to sell so you can continue buying more fabric, and 3. the ones you want to either donate or giveaway. There is no reason to feel guilty about keeping most of them!, :)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful projects you have created you should be proud of them. It is up to you as to what you give away with your projects. I would not go to too much expense to include extra items. Times are tough for everyone these days. I know I really appreciated every little scrap I was given for my charity sewing projects no matter how small they are. I try and create from them. Out of scraps came beautiful breast cancer awareness mug rugs. More than happy to take any pink, white, creams type fabric, scraps or UFO's to rework for my projects.
ReplyDeleteYour UFOs are so pretty! And they look like they are so close to being finished. My UFOs are all in pieces. I absolutely love the aqua and red star quilt. That color combo is my all time favorite.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty tops! If you could find a guild that does charity quilts they would be happy to finish them and donate them. The Tanya Whelan would be perfect as a quilt for someone who is having chemo for breast cancer. The unnamed one with the bright blocks looks like it would be big enough to make two lap quilts for kids with cancer and since it's bright and happy I'm sure they would love it. Just a thought as to what you might do with them if you aren't in total love with them anymore.
